NPP activist GHs100k bail granted by court for posting a false statement on the vice president

Mohammed Zakou, an activist for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been granted bail by the court.

Mr. Zakou was taken into custody for allegedly disseminating untrue information regarding Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the vice president.

On April 12, Mr. Zakou posted on Facebook, “Rest well, Her Excellency,” even though the administration had already stated that the Vice President was merely ill. This led to his arrest.

Later on, he was accused of spreading misleading information.

According to a National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) prosecutor, the accused acknowledged posting the message but stated it was intended as a friendly gesture towards the vice president.

Gary Nimako Marfo, Zakou’s attorney, asked for bail for his client at his Monday appearance before the Achimota Circuit Court.

The judge granted two sureties and GHs 100,000 in bail. Zakou must also appear before the investigator once every seven days.

A case management conference has been scheduled for May 12, 2025.
