Remain at post – Akufo-Addo directs MMDCEs as he dissolves statutory boards

President Nana Akufo-Addo has dissolved all statutory boards and corporations with immediate effect, the Presidency said on Tuesday.

But, representatives of constituent bodies are exempted from this directive.

The statement signed by the chief of staff Akosua Fremah Opare Osei stated that statutory boards and corporations shall be reconstituted by the President or the relevant appointing authority in due course.

Meanwhile, the chief of staff in a separate letter to Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) directed them to stay at post but barred them from taking any decision involving policy, financial commitment, recruitment and others.

She said the directive is in line with the presidential transition Act 845 section 14.

President Akufo-Addo following his swearing-in, on January 7, 2021, appointed Caretaker Ministers to hold the fort as he prepares to appoint substantive appointments.

This follows the expiration of his first term and the commencement of his second four-year term on January 7, 2021.

The President’s move is in accordance with the Presidential Transition Act, 2012, (Act 845), to avoid gaps in the running of state affairs.
