Six passengers have been burnt to death in an accident after their vehicle caught fire at Akomadan in the Ashanti Region while traveling from Lawra in the Upper West Region, Tuesday dawn.
The vehicle with about 37 passengers on board at the time of the accident caught fire after crashing into a stationary vehicle at a Police Check Point at Akomadan.
A passenger who escaped harm after breaking the glass window of the vehicle said the speeding driver was unable to stop when he got to the makeshift checkpoint after applying the brake and in the process crashed into a stationary vehicle at the barrier resulting in the accident following which the vehicle caught fire.
He said the great impact of the accident woke most of the passengers who were sleeping up who started shouting for help when the fire started.
The Akomadan District Police Commander, DSP Gyasi Agyeman who confirmed the accident in an interview said 22 other passengers who sustained injuries have been sent to the Akomadan Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
