The SOS – GrEEn project stakeholder engagement involving Civil Society Organizations has been held in the Ejura-Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region.
The “Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana” ( GrEEn ) Project is a 4-year action, which aims at creating greater employment opportunities for youth, women and returning migrants by promoting and supporting sustainable green businesses in the Ashanti and Western Regions.
The project is funded by the European Union Trust Fund and the Embassy of the kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana. Which is being implemented by United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and SNV Development Organization.
SOS Children’s Villages Ghana is a complementary partner to the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) implementing the”Cash for Work” component of the GrEEn project focusing on achieving Result Area 2. Result Area 2 of the GrEEn project focuses on providing fundamental skills for youth, women and returning migrants within the Municipality to prepare and equip them to identify economic opportunities they can embark on based on their personal preferences.
Speaking at the event at Collinmay Hotel – Ejura, Mr. Shaibu Fuseini Project Coordinator, revealed that, “SOS Ghana has targeted 4000 women, youth and returnees from cash for work programme, and equip them with fundamental skills making them viable for the green economy”.
“Cash for Work beneficiaries would be supported in skills development programs through coaching and mentoring to ensure: (1) placement in Ghana employment (2) Incubate green startup (3) Transition into SNV’s opportunities for youth employment (OYE) program. Cash for Work beneficiaries would be prepared and equipped to identify economic opportunities they can embark on based on their personal preferences and potential within the green economy in their respective Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs),” he added.
Mr. Moses Kofi Ano, GrEEn Project trainer revealed that they are engaging Civil Society Organizations within Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality to solicit their ideas and introduce the GrEEn Project to them and also get ideas on how to sustain the project within the community.
The GrEEn Project has targeted the youth age group from 18 to 35 years while the women is up to 60 years and any returnee staying in Ejura Sekyedumase enclave
Mr Moses Kofi added that at the end of the four (4) years, 400 natives of Ejura Sekyedumase are expected to benefit from the project.
