The leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) will officially write to the main opposition NDC today, Friday, March 15, 2019 inviting them for a dialogue over the much talked about debate to break up party militia affiliated to both parties.
The National Organiser of the ruling NPP, Sammi Awuku says his side will deliver a very warm letter to their opponents over negotiations to end the menace latest by close of day.
But it still remains a difficult challenge as to whether the two parties will be able to clear the hurdle of a mediator dragging the proposed meeting.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has said the common mistrust between the two parties has become necessary to widen the stakeholders to include third parties, if the President is sincere about ending the canker.
But the NPP is still intransigent backing the position of the President who has refused to yield to the demands of the NDC to allow the Peace Council, and others to mediate the dialogue.
“If we meet and there is a break down then you can appeal to these bodies. But if you bring all these bodies in your first meeting and you still can’t make a headway where do you go from there? We must meet and break the ice and fashion out the parameters,” Sammi Awuku told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Friday.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has ordered the Attorney General to prepare and submit to Parliament a legislation aimed at fighting political vigilantism in Ghana.
The President made the announcement in his reaction to the second letter from the NDC chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo over the party’s reservation to the approach in dealing with the menace as suggested by the President. Facebook
