At the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, Ghana’s Black Stars put on a five-star show and defeated Chad 5-0.
When Antoine Semenyo scored the first goal in just ninety seconds, Otto Addo’s team knew that a win would put them atop Group I in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Through Kudus Mohammed and subsequently captain Jordan Ayew, the Black Stars nearly doubled their lead as they continued to dominate, but both attempts failed.
Kudus had a shooting opportunity after a well-executed corner routine, but his attempt was stopped. The rebound was then dinked back into the box belt Kingsley Schindler for a waiting Inaki Williams, whose shot nodded home the second.
Inaki scored his first goal for Ghana in sixteen months.
Jordan Ayew was on hand to score the team’s third goal and his 30th while wearing the national colours after the Black Stars won a penalty a little while later.
Ernest Nuamah of Ghana came close to scoring a fourth goal just before halftime, but Jourdain Mbaynaissem, the extremely busy Chad custodian, stopped his near-post attempt.
Eight minutes into the second half, Mohammed Salisu headed home a close-range corner kick from Nuamah to give Ghana the lead.
After Nuamah finished a beautiful team goal with a great strike into the bottom corner, the Black Stars changed gears in an attempt to score another goal, and the applause became louder.
Ghana’s victory moves them to the top of Group I, ahead of their matchup with Madagascar in Morocco on Monday.
