The Municipal Chief Executive for Wasa Amenfi East in the Western Region, Hon. Frederick Korankye has led a Taskforce formed to combat illegal mining activities in the area to burn five (5) Changfan machines that were being used to mine on the Ankobra River.
The Taskforce also arrested a 51-year-old illegal miner Joseph Ofori Tsatsu operating on the Ankobra River at Wasa Ankonsia.
Sixteen (16) others, however, upon seeing the Taskforce team jumped into the river and escaped.
The MCE has vowed to clamp down on all illegal mining activities in the area to stop the destruction of water bodies and farmlands.
