We will negotiate a good deal with IMF – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has stated his government’s commitment to negotiating a good deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to him, the NPP is known to be a party that rescues the country from economic difficulties.

“Our party, we have a tradition of taking Ghana out of difficulties. We took Ghana out of HIPC in President Kufuor’s time. We took Ghana out of the derailed IMF programme of 2015,” he cited.

President Akufo Addo was speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference themed: “Holding together, Working together” which is being held at the Accra Sports Stadium today Saturday, July 16, 2022.

There has been a mixed reaction to Ghana’s decision to seek a bailout from the IMF. While some applaud the move, others have slammed the government accusing it of contributing to the country’s economic woes by engaging in unnecessary expenditure.

But President Akufo-Addo said, “I want to assure the people of Ghana that we are going to negotiate a good deal with the IMF. A deal that would allow us to revive our economy and to continue the task of building an even stronger economy than we had before.”

Government on July 5, formally announced its decision to engage the IMF for economic support.

Subsequently, an IMF team visited Ghana and concluded an assessment of the eligibility of the country for the needed support and indicated the Fund’s commitment to supporting the country.
