Zanetor Rawlings tells NDC – We have gained power, therefore let’s not be cocky

Corruption is the biggest threat to Ghana's democracy - Zanetor

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members from being conceited now that they have taken power and will be forming the next government.
She said, “We must not allow arrogance, pride, and hubris to fill our hearts because of this victory, as that will be the beginning of our downfall.”

Speaking at the 43rd anniversary of the December 31st Revolution, which took place in the Greater Accra Region, was the daughter of the late NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings.

Dr. Zanetor counselled the NDC’s members to act in a way that would uphold the party’s positive reputation and the revolution’s tenets, which were vital to Ghana’s democracy.

“The principles that underpinned the revolution and ultimately gave rise to this Fourth Republic that we are currently working to restore must be upheld, along with humility and integrity,” she stated.
“My dear comrades, if the foundation on which this Fourth Republic was built was not strong enough, believe me, Ghana would have descended into chaos by now,” she said, implying that if her father and the NDC had not established solid foundations, Ghana would have plunged into strife long ago.

Members of the next government were also urged by the MP to preserve and carry on this tradition. “We have a legacy that we can preserve, and we need to go back to it,” she stated.

On January 7, 2025, the NDC is getting ready to assume power after winning a landslide victory in the elections held on December 7.

The incoming NDC government is being urged by citizens, civil society organisations (CSOs), and other concerned Ghanaians to govern with diligence, especially in preventing authoritarianism, corruption, and other practices that threaten democracy.
