The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will today launch the Drone for Medical Supplies Initiative at Zipline’s first distribution centre at Omenako, in the Suhum municipality in the Eastern region.
The $12.5 million contract is to enable the Ghana Health Service fly blood and other essential medical supplies to the hinterlands and hard to reach areas of the country.
Prior to the official launch today, Zipline on Tuesday, conducted a final testing and diagnostic of it’s equipment as it flew a drone and delivered medical supplies to the New Tafo Hospital in the Eastern Region.
Government in 2018 approved the operationalization of Zipline’s drone technology to deliver essential drugs and blood to rural areas in the country amidst protest from Members of Parliament on the Minority side.
