The Minister of Inner-city and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has disclosed that his outfit will soon desilt the Pelele drain at Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly of the Ashanti Region.
It will be recalled that the Minister, Hamid Mustapha, answering questions during the President’s meeting with the media said as part of efforts to improve the drainage system to avoid flooding in the area, the river has been dredged.
The minister received public backlash and was described by residents in the area as a “liar” for making that statement.
Mustapha Hamid speaking at the media launch of the 2019 Conference of Zongo for Peace and Development held in Kumasi on Wednesday, 2 January 2019 stated that his comment during President Media encounter that the Pelele drain has been dredged by the Ministry was nothing but the truth.
According to the Minister, the drain was dredged by the Ministry of Inner-city and Zongo Development by his predecessor Alhaji Abubakar Boniface.
Mustapha Hamid admitted that the Pelele has been engulfed with filth saying the Ministry will soon dredge the drain to help curb flooding in the area during rainy season.
“I didn’t lie as people are saying. What I said was the truth. The Pelele River was dredged by my predecessor Abubakar Boniface. My predecessor desilted the Pelele drain between April and June 2018. I still stand by my words” the Minister said.
