The Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura-Sekyedumase Hon Salisu Bamba has presented cashew seeds to 333 farmers at Frante a community in the Municipality
The move forms part of the Akufo Addo government’s Planting for Export Development programme.
Speaking at the well attended presentation ceremony, Hon. Bamba stated that the European Union supported programme will see each of the 333 farmers receiving 3 kilos of seeds which can grow 2 acres of cashew.
He disclosed that there’s also a part of the programme where 120 farmers will have 1 acre of land cleared for them by the government while they also bear the cost of clearing another 1 acre of land to plant the cashew seeds.
Hon. Bamba added that the Municipal assembly will later distribute 50000 cashew seeds to 750 farmers in the municipality with each receiving 80 seedlings to boost the planting of cashew.
According to the MCE, the Akufo Addo government has great interest in seeing a boost in agriculture and the well being of hardworking farmers.
“Before the NPP government assumed power in 2017, there were only 12 operational areas in the municipality which had extension officers stationed there to help the farmers but as we speak, two and a half years into this regime, the number has shot up to 82 operational areas with 82 extension officers. That is a testament that this government is indeed committed to improving agriculture in this country.”
