Firefighters in the Ashanti Regional capital battled a huge blaze which engulfed at least 30 shops at the Kumasi Central Market.
The fire started just before 9 p.m Sunday at an enclave mainly occupied by cobblers.
Items including finished shoes, petroleum and wooden products running into millions of cedis were destroyed by the blaze.
Firefighters spent about two hours to battle the blaze.
The Ghana National Fire Service said access to the market and interference from traders was a major challenge.
