‘I pray marijuana is legalised in Ghana’ – Abena Korkor

Media personality and social media influencer, Nana Abena Korkor Addo, popularly known as Abena Korkor, has joined the call for the validation of marijuana in Ghana.

She also admitted to smoking the herb, although occasionally, as it makes her sleep well and feels relaxed. This comes after she was asked whether she uses the substance.

Abena added that people need to be granted the freedom to smoke because they need to “chill out”.

“When you smoke weed, it makes you sleep soundly. I sometimes smoke. I pray they legalize it because a lot of people need to hit the joint and chill the ‘F’ out,” said the socialite in an interview with Da Don on U Sey Weytin on March

Over the years, musicians like Kwaw Kese, Shatta Wale, Samini, Rocky Dawuni, Ras Kuuku, and George Jaraah have added their voices to the legalization of marijuana in the country.

Other public figures including, John Dumelo, Deborah Vanessa and David Oscar believe that the country will be on a successful journey of becoming a nation that is beyond-aid, should the bill be passed.

Speaking of the bill, in March 2020, the Parliament of Ghana passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, which will allow the use and cultivation of cannabis for industrial and medical use. However, the variety is known as ‘hemp’ is not approved by law.

Recreational marijuana remains illegal in the country.
