The ban imposed on Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, has been overturned by a Sekondi High Court.
Madam Cudjoe was already prohibited from running for office in the next parliamentary election by the injunction.
The decision today comes after the matter was previously adjourned, during which the NDC asked the court to remove the injunction against its candidate and to reject the substantive disqualification.
This occurred weeks after the Accra High Court rejected an earlier application in which the NDC argued for Cudjoe’s eligibility and sought to stop the EC from printing ballots and the notice of poll.
The Commission can now proceed with printing ballots and logistics with Joana Cudjoe’s name on them because to the most recent development.
The attorney for the first defendant, Edudzi Tamakloe, urged the EC to follow the court’s order after the court sessions.
“We would like to thank the court and express our great satisfaction. The EC official was present in court and is aware that the injunction has been revoked. Madam Jean Mensa ought to act appropriately now that the injunction has been lifted,” he stated.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed happiness following the court hearings, feeling relieved that a weight had been removed.
In order to secure her victory on December 7, she also urged her supporters to step up their campaigning.
“I’m incredibly grateful. I’m grateful to God and the party for helping me out today. We’re going to be ready for our campaign when I get home,” she stated.
