Former President John Mahama has asked aspirants associating his name with their campaign ahead of the NDC’s National Delegates Congress scheduled for December 17, 2022 in Accra to put a stop to it.
“As has been publicly stated by Mr. Mahama, he has no preference and has not endorsed any candidate in the ongoing NDC national executive elections, which climaxes on Saturday at the 10th National Delegates Congress.
“Mr. Mahama has noted the attempt by some candidates to push a narrative, despite his previous cautions, that he supports their candidature,” a statement dated December 13, 2022, signed by the Special Aide to the former President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari stated.
She continued “Of paramount interest to President Mahama is Victory for the NDC in 2024 to work with expectant and suffering Ghanaians to “Build the Ghana We Want.” He, like other supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will work with whoever the delegates choose and elect.”
Meanwhile, the Office of Mr. Mahama has also condemned a publication in a tabloid newspaper that the family of the former President is in support of one of the aspirants for National Chairman of the NDC.
“The said claim and the publication are false, and the rank and file of the party are encouraged to disregard them,” the statement added.
However, the just-ended youth and women congress held at Cape Coast in the Central Region on December 10, 2022 has been marred with some disturbing developments.
The Ghana Police Service have declared sixteen persons wanted in connection with the violent disturbances.
While proceedings were ongoing at the Congress two rival groups violently clashed throwing stones, blocks, sticks, clubs, chairs among others, causing injury to three persons and destruction to property.
But, through the intervention of the Police the situation was brought under control for the processes to continue to the end without any further incident.
