The Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyedumase, Bawah Brimah has criticized the Akufo Addo led government and the Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development, over the construction of Astro Turfs in Zongo communities.
According to him, there are more pressing issues confronting the Zongo communities in Ghana such as infrastructure and poor sanitation which need immediate solution and not the provision of astro turfs.
The Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development, has partnered with
Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited to build astro turfs in Zongo communities across the country, including the Madina Zongo Artificial Park, Walewale Zongo Artificial Park in the Northern region, Kyebi Zongo Artificial Park in the Eastern Region to mention but few.
However speaking to host Henry Lord on Ejura based Naagyei FM, Hon. Bawah stated that the construction of astro turfs will certainly not solve the enormous problems facing the zongo communities.
“These astro turfs will not have any meaningful impact on the zongo communities. Instead of channeling funds to construct these pitches, those monies could be used in constructing the poor drainage in our communities. There are other areas with no electricity supply and the government thinks the provision of astro turfs are rather a priority. I’m tempted to believe that the government is concentrating on the pitches simply because someone wants to milk the state.”
