NDC gives EC a week’s notice to respond to audit requirement.

Live by your transparency and fairness tenets …NDC urges EC as it leads mammoth protest to demand audit of voters register - Ghanaian Times

The Electoral Commission (EC) has been given a week by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to act on their petition, which requests a forensic assessment of the voter registration procedure.

The NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, declared that the party will intensify its efforts with a series of protests to put pressure on the Commission to guarantee transparency if the EC does not answer within this time frame.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on September 17, Mr. Gyamfi said that the country’s district offices of the EC would be the target of these protests.

We’ve made the decision to hold off on responding for a mere week. We anticipate that they would take the appropriate action, as it is evident that their intransigence is not serving the interests of Ghanaians,” he said.

He emphasised that the NDC is a law-abiding political party and that it would voice its disapproval through peaceful and legal channels.

“What you witnessed today is merely the beginning; we won’t fight anyone or pull gunning down any more.” Since we are a law-abiding political party, we shall protest in accordance with Ghana’s constitution, he continued.

In addition, he questioned the EC’s denial of a forensic audit, arguing that this kind of opposition raises the possibility of a problem.

He maintained that the EC should welcome the request for an audit as a chance to demonstrate their openness and win their case if they had nothing to conceal.
