The Electoral Commission has said the senior leadership of the Commission will still be at post despite the recess.
The decision, according to the EC is to facilitate smooth engagement with key stakeholders following the lingering electoral disputes.
An earlier statement on Tuesday by the EC noted it is breaking for Christmas and will return on January 19.
This was met with some backlash from some Civil Society organizations(CSOs) asking the Electoral Commission to rescind their decision to go on recess following agitations over the 2020 election results.
However, the EC in its latest statement said despite the recess, key senior staff of the commission will remain at post, but all its field staff and officials at the local level will break for the Christmas holidays.
“Following the successful conduct of the 2020 general elections, all the field staff of the Electoral Commission across the 275 Districts and 16 Regional Capitals, having worked tirelessly throughout the year in spite of COVID 19, have been granted a well-deserved break. This break is aimed at promoting efficiency while reducing staff and administrative costs.”
