The Seat of Government, the Jubilee House is set to be powered by solar Energy beginning August 2019, President Akufo Addo has announced.
Delivering his third State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, 21 February 2019, the President said this move forms part of government’s effort to reduce liabilities to the Electricity Company of Ghana.
“To reduce the government’s expenditure on utilities and also promote the use of solar power for government and public buildings, the Ministry of Energy initiated the Solar roof-top programme. The Ministry is leading by example with the installation of 65kw Solar roof-top system at its premises. Jubilee House will also be powered as of August this year by solar energy as an example to other public institutions. In fact, the government’s target is to install up to 200mw of distributed solar power by 2030 in both residential and nonresidential facilities to reduce government’s liabilities to ECG/PBS Ghana Limited.”
