The Bono regional communication director of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Asare Bediako Seth has indicated that the rehabilitation and expansion work on the first phase of the Sunyani Airport is completed and ready for flights to resume operation.
According to him, what is left is the handing over to the government for commissioning.
He noted that the contractor in charge of the rehabilitation of the runway, taxi-link and the terminal building earlier this year indicated that the project will be completed in early March and his checks confirmed the project is ready for use.
He disclosed that the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has granted approval for the second phase to commence, adding that as the president commissions the first phase, he will proceed to cut sod for the second phase.
He made this statement to Kingdom News when he was questioned over why flights have not resumed at the Sunyani Airport when he had promised the people of Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions that the airport will be ready by March.
In March 2016, commercial airline operation to Sunyani airport were halted by the Ghana Airport company limited (GACL) due to the bad and poor state of the airport infrastructures that posses threat to airlines operations.
