Real Madrid lost to AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu, their second loss in the Champions League group stage and their second straight home loss.
After Malick Thiaw’s first goal, Vinicius Junior’s penalty gave Madrid an equaliser, but goals from Alvaro Morata and Tijjani Reijnders gave Milan a well-earned win.
After losing to rivals Barcelona 4-0 at home over the weekend, Madrid has now dropped their previous two games.
And after losing to Lille on the road, Carlo Ancelotti’s defending European champions have already dropped two of their opening four Champions League games.
Both teams have had inconsistent beginnings to the season; Milan is currently in seventh place in Serie A, eight points behind leaders Napoli, and has only won one of their first three Champions League games.
Madrid, however, will have more questions following a poor performance full of missed opportunities. They are currently nine points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
