President Nana Akufo Addo has congratulated Kurt E.S Okraku on his election as the new President of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), saying his victory is well-deserved.
In a Facebook post, the President urged Ghanaians to “rally behind Kurt Okraku in realizing his vision for the growth and development of Ghana football.”
The Businessman and football administrator, pulled through as the new Ghana Football Association (GFA) President after winning the keenly contested polls with 59 total votes cast in his favour.
Kurt Okraku and George Afriyie were scheduled to face off for a third-round after the second round failed to produce a winner, but George Afriyie who garnered 43 votes conceded defeat even before the third round.
Dreams FC CEO, Kurt Okraku will steer affairs at the GFA for the next four years.
The presidential election was the final process of constituting the new GFA administration.
The Elective Congress held Friday, October 25, 2019 took place at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ridge, Accra.
The process started last week with the election of 10 Regional FA chairmen followed by Thursday’s Executive Council election.
Six candidates contested for the GFA Presidency, including Kurt Okraku, George Afriyie, Fred Pappoe, George Ankomah Mensah, Nana Yaw Amponsah, and Amanda Clinton.
The position has been vacant since Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned last year following the Number 12 documentary by Anas.
A FIFA/CAF Normalisation Committee headed by Dr. Kofi Amoah has been steering the affairs of the association for 13 months.
