The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that a total of 26 Africans die every hour from COVID-19 as the third wave of the disease surges on the African continent.
According to the WHO Director for Africa Region, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, 24 out of 54 African countries are still reporting fast-rising case numbers of the virus with the epicenter moving target shifting from one sub-region to the next.
She noted that cases are rising in West, Central, and East Africa.
“In this third wave, every hour, 26 Africans die of COVID-19. The pandemic is still raging and we must not let our guard down. As long as vaccination rates a low, severe illness and deaths risk staying high.” Dr Matshidiso Moeti said at a news briefing on Thursday.
