Mona Gucci, host of Onua FM’s Biribi Gyegye Wo, and Afia Pokua, a journalist for Angel TV, apologised live on television for the offensive comments they made about Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Ashanti people.
Afia Pokua chastised the Asantehene on her show last week for what she saw as his inaction in the face of persistent hostilities between his subjects and other tribes, such as the Bonos.
Afia Pokua was not also asked to take back her remark by the host, Mona Gucci.
Many people criticised Afia Pokua for her words against the Asantehene, which were deemed morally repugnant.
However, the two apologised to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asante people as a whole, utilising the same platform where the remark and behaviour took place.
The anchor of OnuaTV’s “Bribigye gye wo” program, Mona, apologised for giving Afia Pokua the opportunity to make disparaging remarks against the Asantehene.
“I, Monalisa Abigail Sefakor Semeha, apologise to the Ashantis and the Asantehene and beg for your pardon. My guest made hurtful remarks when she appeared on the show. We are apologising on the same platform. We sincerely apologise to all of our viewers, Ashantis included. We are aware of your suffering and worries about this matter. I’m sorry for everything that happened.
“Our family is the Asanteman, and our father is the Asantehene.” With regret, Mona Gucci said, “Please pardon us.
Afia Pokua apologised profusely to the Asantehene and the entire Ashanti kingdom, both domestically and internationally, with evident regret.
While wearing funeral regalia, she conveyed her sincere apologies.
I apologise to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II sincerely. I apologise for my poor speech and acknowledge my mistakes. I am his niece, his child, and his grandchild. I bowed and begged for his pardon.
Afia Pokua apologised to everyone concerned, including her hometown Chief, the Kwahumanhene, and the people of Kwahu, acknowledging that her words had embarrassed them. “I also apologise to the Kwahumanhene. I have brought shame upon you. My words have embarrassed the Chief and the people of Kwahu. Please forgive me; I promise not to let this happen again,” she continued. “I also apologise to the entire Asanteman, both home and abroad. Please forgive me. My actions were not intentional; I ask that, despite your anger, you find it in your heart to forgive me. I erred; I goofed,” she said.
Pokua also apologised to Media General for utilising their platform to make her statements and to her parents, relatives, friends, and coworkers for the embarrassment she had caused them.
