Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the wife of deceased Member of Parliament(MP) Kyeremanten Agyarko has won the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Certified Results released by the EC from the grounds shows the widow winning the Polls with a total of 12,041 votes representing 68.80% out of 17,501 total valid votes cast.
Her closest contender, Delali Kwasi Brempong of the NDC who pulled out of the race early on obtained a total of 5, 341 votes while the PPP’s William Kofi Dowokpor followed with some 102 votes.
Political parties that contested for the vacant seat are the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
The candidates are Lydia Seyram Alhassan (NPP); Kwasi Delali Brempong (NDC); William Dowokpor (PPP); and Clement Boadi of the LPG.
Violent attacks
At least six people sustained gunshot wounds when some unknown gunmen invaded the Bawleshie residence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr Kwasi Delali Berempong in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday morning.
Some of the victims are said to have sustained injuries at the neck, arm and back.
Following the incident, the NDC withdrew its candidate contesting the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, saying it cannot participate in an election synonymous to a war zone.
