Apologize for your ‘Bloody Widow’ placards – NPP Women MPs to NDC MPs

The Majority Women Caucus in Parliament is demanding an unqualified apology from the Minority NDC group over their shameful attacks on the personality of the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP-elect, Lydia Seyram Alhassan who was sworn in yesterday.

Addressing a press conference in Accra today, the Deputy Majority Leader, Sarah Adwoa Safo said the action of the Minority MPs was disrespectful and inhumane to one of their own.

She said no woman should be made to suffer from any form of abuse, stressing that the display of placards describing Lydia Seyram Alhassan as ‘Bloody Widow’ was uncalled for.

She said what makes the action of the NDC MPs more worrisome was the fact that it happened in front of five children of the new MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon who were seated in the public gallery.

Hon. Adwoa Safo commenting further referred to the warm welcome the Majority side gave to the MP for Shai Osudoku who lost her husband through motor accident and noted that such was expected from the NDC MPs.

She, however, expressed the belief that despite the attacks on the personality of Lydia Seyram Alhassan, she is up to the task to deliver on her mandate.

She also noted that they will not allow the action of the Minority to mar the beautiful relationship that exists between the two caucuses.

Following up on their call, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, Matthew Nyindam, referred to Order 93(2) and appealed to the Speaker on the floor of the House to compel the NDC MPs to apologize to the House and the new MP for their misconduct.
