The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that its personnel was nowhere to be found during the one-year commemoration of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence by the opposition NDC.
During the commemorative event on Friday, ex-President John Mahama on Friday slammed the police for failing to discharge their duties because of partisan influence.
The Police said it “provided adequate security for the one-year commemorative durbar of Ayawaso West Wuogon By-Election, which was held on Friday 31st January 2020 at the Bawaleshie Presbyterian Church premises, Accra.”
In a statement on Saturday signed by the PRO of the Accra Regional Police Command Afia Tengey, the police said it also deployed CID officers on the ground beside a 10-man military back-up.
