Canadians’ rescue: No ransom was paid to kidnappers – Info Minister

The Minister of Communications, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated that no monies exchanged hands between National Security operatives and kidnappers of the two Canadian nationals in Kumasi.

There have been reports that an undisclosed amount of money was demanded by the kidnappers before they would release the abducted Canadian ladies who were kidnapped last week.

But briefing the media in Accra on Wednesday on the arrest of the 8 suspected kidnappers, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that that information is false as not even a dime was parted away before the girls were set free.

“No ransom was paid, no ransom was discussed in this matter. Our security agencies showed earlier intelligence report, did their work and then got to the conclusion of this matter. No ransom was paid between our security agencies and these persons.”

Contrary to earlier reports that Canadian Investigators flown into the country played a role in rescuing the ladies, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that the rescue operation was done by an all Ghanaian team of security operatives.

Meanwhile, the eight kidnappers which include three Nigerians and five Ghanaians have been airlifted to Accra from Kumasi for interrogation.
