Chinese killed in gas explosion at Wassa Akropong

One person has been confirmed dead in a gas explosion at Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region.

The deceased has been identified as a Chinese national while two others yet to be identified are in critical condition.

Municipal Commander for the Ghana Fire Service in the area, D.O. ll Emmanuel Laryea told Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan the Chinese national used the place where the incident took place as their residence and occupational purposes.

Reports say the blast occurred when the victims were busily welding.

Wassa Akropong is home to many Chinese nationals for illegal mining activities and have failed to return to their country after the Akufo Addo-led administration waged a war against galamsey.

Police have cordoned off the scene to allow for investigations on the incident
