Dec. Polls: Let’s protect what we have as a nation to honour my father – Zanetor

Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings, the first daughter of late ex-president Jerry John Rawlings says her father’s memory will be desecrated if the December 07 general election is marred by chaos and violence.

Addressing party faithfuls and Ghanaians at large during a vigil organised by the NDC in memory of the late president, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings underscored the need for Ghanaians to guard jealously against what will tear the nation apart in the impending elections.

Referencing a quote from her father, Dr. Zanetor who is also the MP for Klottey Korle constituency said: “We often get lost in the games of politics and often forget that our North Star should be our principles, values and kindness to one another,” adding “in many ways, this is summed up by the golden rule that we treat each other as we would love to be treated.

She stressed: “I pray that as we enter this period, towards the election on the 7th of December, that we let these values live within us and we absolutely protect what we have as a nation because that is how we honour his memory.”

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress Johnson Asiedu Nketia has urged members of the party to ensure victory for the party in the December polls to honour the late JJ Rawlings.

“The principles of Rawlings are good, but they will be impotent if we are in opposition. So the best tribute to President Rawlings is to be committed to the rescue mission. So be fired up by the temporary demise of our founder to win this election and rescue this nation Ghana which was dear to his heart from the very ills he fought against all his life.

“Corruption today is worse than what he fought against on the occasion of June 4th. Nepotism today is worse than what occasioned the June 4th revolution. Let us fight to come to power. Let us revisit the idea of June 4th becoming one of the national holidays. We can only do this in power,” Mr. Nketia told party supporters at a vigil in memory of the party’s founder in Accra Sunday.
