A 25-year-old illegal miner has been found dead in a mining pit at Apampatia in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.
The deceased, Bokom Nicholas drowned while mining with other accomplices.
The body has been retrieved and deposited at the morgue.
Information gathered indicate that the deceased who celebrated his 25th birthday on March 23, 2021, together with his accomplices, went to the mining concession of Xtra Gold mining company leased to Panther mining Company to mine but drowned.
According to a resident, Owusu Akyem, it was abomination to work in farm on that fateful day – March 25, 2021.
According to the Kwabeng District Police command, it had information that a male adult had fallen into a mining pit at Apampatia hence quickly dispatched officers to the scene and found the man drowned in the mining.
Local divers swam into the mining pit and retrieved the lifeless body of the victim.
Careful inspection on the body by Police found no physical marks of violence.
Deceased was wearing only a multi coloured boxer shorts.
Body of deceased has been deposited at Chad morgue in Akyem Ankaase for preservation awaiting autopsy.
