GES introduces news uniforms for JHS students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the introduction of a new school uniform for Junior High School (JHS) students.

Students are expected to start wearing the new school uniform from next academic year, 2019 – 2020.

Currently, Junior High Students in most of the public schools across the country wear the same uniforms with pupils in primary schools.

The Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa who announced this at a press conference in Accra on Thursday said the move is intended to psyche the Junior High School students against continuing to see themselves as kids.

“Our structure is such that they are part of the primary school so they tend to see themselves as primary school students. But the idea is to psychologically let them see themselves as secondary school students, and this is also dovetailed into the new reforms that is coming in terms of the contents of their curriculum which will be upgraded such that it will come to standards with the normal secondary school.”
