I never planned to sell off Komenda Sugar Factory – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has denied claims that the previous NDC administration led by him tried to sell off the Komenda Sugar Factory.

The former President who was responding to claims by the Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanteng that the NDC administration tried disposing off the factory stated emphatically that his government never made any attempt to sell the Komenda sugar factory but only tried to cushion it to deliver on its mandate through partnership.

Speaking to the media after touring the Komenda sugar factory as part of his three days campaign tour in the central region, Mr. Mahama said his government only sought to establish a Public Private Partnership Agreement (PPP) to help the factory function properly.

He, therefore, urged the government to go for the loan provided by the India EXIM and get the sugar factory running.

“The intention was to get a partner under a PPP arrangement; PPP means Public Private Partnership, that was what we were doing. And either in the case of the PPP, to come as a management consultant and manage the factory on behalf of government, and then we pay them a consultancy fee; or they can come as PPP partners…”
