Former National Security Advisor Brigadier-General (Rtd) Nunoo Mensah has revealed that in the four years that he served as the Head of Human Security at the National Security Council Secretariat, then-President John Mahama did not for once seek his advice on issues bothering on human security.
Upon President J.E.A Mills’ assumption of power, he appointed Brigadier-General (Rtd) Nunoo Mensah as National Security Advisor.
But upon President Mills’ death in office and President John Mahama succeeding him, he[Mahama] removed Brigadier-General (Rtd) Nunoo Mensah and made him the Head of Human Security.
Speaking to host Henry Lord on Ejura-based Naagyei FM’s Morning Show, Brigadier-General (Rtd) Nunoo Mensah who is the only two-time Chief of Defence Staff in Ghana’s history stated that though then President Mahama failed to make use of him he remained committed to his job and discharge his duties effectively.
“I was security advisor and then moved to Human Security, ask them if for the four years that I was with them anyone called me to seek my opinion on any issue. Jesus Christ came and chose wise men to help him spread the gospel, but you[Mahama] came and removed a very good team put together by President Mills’ including me, the only two-time CDS in Ghana’s history who attended Sandhurst and topped my class and you replaced us with the likes of Col. (Rtd) Gbevlo Lartey who is not experienced, so what do you expect? you only get mediocrity.”
The former senior-most Military officer bemoaned the indiscipline in the system, adding that Ghana is developing at a slow pace that it should not be.
