NPP leadership engages Govt and MPs over calls for dismissal of Ofori Atta, Adu Boahen

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) is currently engaging Government as well as the Parliamentary Group, over calls by the party’s Members of Parliament for the dismissal of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.

According to the NPP MPs, the removal of the duo is the only way to restore confidence in Ghana’s tattered economy.

Addressing the media in an unceremonious manner the NPP MPs led by Asante Akyem North MP and former deputy minister for Railways Development, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi disclosed a number of petitions have already been sent to President Akufo-Addo over the poor performance of his finance minister demanding action but to no avail.

According to him, the majority will boycott any government business including approval of the 2023 budget if the President fails to heed their demand.

“Notice is hereby served that until such persons as aforementioned are made to resign or removed from office, we members of the Majority caucus here in parliament will not participate in any business of government by or for the President [or] by any other minister,” he explained.

But a statement signed by the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim urged all stakeholders to remain calm as it seeks an amicable resolution to the impasse.

“The leadership of the Party, herein, reiterates its commitment to at all times, engage Government on issues of utmost interest and concern to the Party, Government, and the citizenry. May God bless our homeland Ghana and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong,” the statement added.
