An Associate Professor at the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo is urging the Church of Pentecost to take interest in the leaked tape allegedly featuring the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
According to him, the Church must take a look at the position of Mr Ofosu Ampofo as an Elder of the church due to the criminal content of the leaked tape.
This follows the emergence of a secret recording purported to be that of Mr Ofosu Ampofo in which he’s allegedly heard making certain damning comments that have national security implications.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo in the said tape is heard allegedly telling party communicators to attack some prominent personalities in the society including the National Peace Council Chair, Reverend Emmanuel Asante, the EC Chairperson Mrs Jean Mensah.
“For the first time, I will endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair,” to cheers from the NDC Communicators, whilst he said the “The party will come out with a number of policy initiatives. Security and Intelligence Unit in the party will be formed and we will appoint National Coordinator, Regional, District and Constituency officers to lead these Unites as we zoom along into 2020.”
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo further stated that the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensah’s comments over the Ayawaso incident was unpalatable to them, and hence they will “take her to the cleaners.”
He has also told his people to launch similar attacks on President Akufo-Addo who is the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, urging them to do all in their power to paint him violent in the face of the international community, thereby discrediting his credibility.
Though Mr Ofosu Ampofo has claimed the tape is doctored, others who believe it is his voice have called on the Church of Pentecost to deal decisively with him to serve as a deterrent to other leaders of the church.
Prof. Gyampo speaking on News File reiterated the call for the church to crack the whip on Mr Ampofo.
“Apostle Eric Nyamekye must take note of this, we have three opinions here. One, is a voice that is clear, two, is someone saying it’s a doctored tape, three, is someone saying it is true. My position is that we may end up ignoring or abandoning this issue to die a natural death, but the vision of the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost to take up the nation for Christ will become a chimera if we don’t do much to re-think the Eldership of such a personality within the church.”
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the leadership of the Church of Pentecost Ghana has requested for the leaked audio recording.
It is unclear what their next line of action will be.
