The Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura-Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region, Salisu Bamba has served notice to Fulani herdsmen in the area that they’ll be flushed out by Wednesday if they continue to harass farmers.
According to him, the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of which he’s the Head will not sit aloof to see hardworking farmers being deprived of their produce by the grazing cattle of these recalcitrant Fulani herdsmen.
Hon. Bamba was speaking when he together with members of the MUSEC embarked on a Fulani Herdsmen eradication sensitization exercise in some communities including Kyekyekura, Mbanaa, Dwenewoho and Aberewano.
“Before you came here we asked that you hold on a bit before coming, because farmers still have their produce in the farms. About a month ago when farmers were still cultivating the produce some of you Fulani herdsmen brought your cattle into their farms. I’m serving notice that we’ll not countenance such destruction to farm produce, if you continue to destroy crops by Wednesday we’ll descend heavily on you and flush you out of this area. You Fulani herdsmen are not the reason why farmers are farming. We’ll not allow you to destroy farm produce and go free, that will certainly not happen.”
Over the years farmer in Ejura Sekyedumase have suffered the brunt of the activities of Fulani herdsmen whose conduct result in the destruction of acres of cultivated crops, an alarming situation which got some farmers in 2015 allegedly arming themselves to resist the practice.
