Minority redirects 80m for Nat’l Cathedral to Roads and Comms Ministries

The Minority in Parliament has compelled Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to redirect 80 million Ghana cedis allocation to the National Cathedral Secretariat in the 2023 budget to Roads and Communications Ministries.

The NDC MPs who shot down the allocation at the committee level mounted spirited arguments against pumping such an amount into the project given the economic crisis the country is going through.

Taking turns to debate the report of the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee, NDC MPs used scriptures to underpin how wasteful such a venture is.

However, the NPP MPs on the other hand deployed th same scriptures to question the position of the Minority arguing such a project will not only bring blessings to the country but help in resolving the current economic crisis.

They described the minority MPs as unbelievers seeking to thwart efforts to give God his due.

After the protracted back and forth, deputy Majority leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin consulted the Finance Minister who was in the chamber.

He then returned with the announcement the 80 million cedis will rather be added to the budget estimates of the ministries of Roads and Highways and that of Communications and Digitalisation.
