Concern youth of Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly Yakubu Askandar are calling for the head of the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Duku Mensah following the killing of 7 innocent persons at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District.
It will be recalled that the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Duku Mensah after the incidents in press conference revealed the circumstances that led to the shooting of seven suspected armed robbers at Ayirebikrom near Manso Nkwanta on July 13, 2018.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akwasi Mensah Duku, the seven out of eight suspected robbers were gunned down in the process of trading bullets with the Police in the Region.
He said, “We exchanged gunfire with the seven deceased at Manso Nkwanta when the police signalled to stop; they refused and started firing at the police and the police return fire that led to their death.”
According to the seven-member government committee that investigated the incident has revealed that there’s no evidence to suggest that the seven persons who were shot and killed by a Police patrol team at Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, were armed robbers, and that they indeed exchanged fire with the police.
One of the concerned Asawase youth, Yakubu Askandar speaking to Abusua Fm’s Osei Kwadwo said interdicting police officers over the killing of the gang of 7 is not enough.
According to Yakubu Askander, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku must also be interdicted or fired for lying to the public.
“Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku told the whole world that our brothers were armed robbers. So they killed armed robbers. Now the Committee report is saying our brothers were innocent. That shows the incompetency of the regional police commander. He should be fired” he said.
Yakubu Askandar has threatened to take legal action against the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku.
