No plans for Privatization of Kotoka Airport – Aviation Ministry

The Aviation Ministry has denied media reports of the alleged privatization of the Kotoka International Airport(KIA).

The Ministry rather said it was seeking to partner the Ghana Airport Company Limited(GACL) to provide management services for the operational and financial functions for its development.

In a Press Release sighted by Kasapa News, the Aviation Ministry also discredited reports that Cabinet has requested a Memorandum recommending approval for the sale or privatization of the company.

It thus added that broader consultation with stakeholders will be held as part of internal considerations if an appropriate option is agreed upon.

Per a  cabinet memo in possession of Kasapafmonline.com, management services of the KIA is to be ceded to a Turkish firm, TAV Airport Holding Company Limited, as it will be in charge of the “day to day operations, including facility maintenance and fees collections.”

The aim of the proposal, according to the leaked cabinet document, is “to help bring about physical development of the airport enclave and transform the KIA into a world class airport with improved managerial efficiency.”
