The largest opposition National Democratic Congress has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) government of being complicit in the escape of the beleaguered CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah popularly known as NAM 1.
According to the NDC, the government secretly engineered and aided NAM 1 to flee out of the country following his troubles in his gold business.
“NAM 1’s amorous affair with the Akufo-Addo government is the only explanation as to how state security aided him to abscond from our jurisdiction and continues to treat him and his accomplices with kid gloves…We’re convinced beyond shadow of doubt that NAM1 was aided by government and our security agencies to flee this country,” Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi said at the party’s 2nd series of the Moment of Truth.
Nana Appiah Mensah, the embattled Menzgold CEO, is currently in the custody of the Emirati authorities following his arrest in Dubai in connection with a fraudulent gold business deal.
Reports say Authorities in Dubai are insisting on a firm commitment on the part of Ghanaian security authorities to investigate, and bring to book persons involved in the swindling of the Dubai based company of a whopping $51 million, as well as their refund of the money.
The Ghana Police Service on Monday confirmed the arrest of NAM 1 by UAE security officials.
NAM1 was last week declared wanted for defrauding by false pretence among other charges.
The warrant for his arrest was issued in Accra after his investment company, Menzgold, failed to settle a refund of clients’ money and dividends.
