Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region, Bawah Brimah has justified the display of placards in Parliament with the inscription ‘Bloody Widow’ targeted at the newly elected MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
Members of the opposition NDC Minority in Parliament while staging a walkout held the said placards moments before the new MP was sworn into office by the Speaker of Parliament on Tuesday.
The by-election in Ayawaso West Wuogon last Thursday which was won by Hon. Lydia Alhassan was characterized by violence during which six people were shot at close range when masked armed men said to be National Security operatives stormed the residence of the NDC Candidate at La-Bawaleshie.
The injured are currently on admission at the 37 Military hospital receiving treatment.
Though the holding of the placards has been roundly condemned by a large section of the public, Hon. Bawah Brimah in an interview with Host, Henry Lord on Naagyei FM insisted that, that was the only way to get the new MP to sympathize and visit the victims of the violent election that made her an MP.
“Days after the shooting of the helpless persons, this new MP still failed to say a word to say sorry or sympathize with the injured people. She didn’t show any regret for what had happened. It took the holding of this same placards for her to pay the victims a visit at the hospital on Wednesday. She has no sympathy and wouldn’t have visited the victims if we hadn’t done that to her. What we did was very right and we don’t have any regrets.”
